Division of Adult Institutions

Multiclass group DOC staff

The Division of Adult Institutions manages the state’s adult correctional centers.

Each adult institution operates like a small city whose residents work in jobs, go to school, eat meals together in dining halls and access treatment for medical or behavioral-health issues. They participate in programs designed to help them change their mindsets, develop a deep understanding of the impact of crime on victims, and make positive contributions to communities inside and outside prison walls. More than 95% of offenders committed to prison ultimately are released. Preparing them to transition successfully to the community improves public safety and reduces future victimization.
