Missouri
Vocational Enterprises (MVE) is a part of the Division of Offender Rehabilitative
Services under the Missouri Department of Corrections. MVE utilizes offender
labor, along with supervisors and administrative staff, to provide products
and services to state agencies and other tax-supported entities. Great
pride is taken in providing quality, efficiency and timely support to
all of our customers. Please note: Due to state
statutes, MVE cannot sell products or services to private individuals
or industries.
Missouri Vocational Enterprises (MVE) is responsible for 25 different industries, services and agribusiness operations located in fourteen correctional institutions throughout the state. Since it's beginning over 100 years ago, the program has been revised and expanded. At any one time, MVE employs approximately 1,500 offenders who provide a variety of products and services for sale to state agencies, city and county governments, political subdivisions, state employees and not-for-profit organizations. Its goal is to increase employment and training opportunities for offenders.
Varieties of vocational training programs are provided in various institutions throughout the state. Funding is obtained from the profits of MVE. Programming is directed at teaching offenders applicable work skills and habits prior to their release from prison. Some of the training programs are upholstery and furniture construction.
As a benefit to the state and to taxpayers, MVE is self-supportive. Proceeds from the sale of our products are returned to the organizations revolving fund for operational expenses; i.e. salaries, equipment, raw materials, etc.
MVE activities are authorized by Missouri State Statutes, Section 217.550, 217.575 and 217.580. The
statute requires that any products or services produced by MVE must
not be purchased from any other source without first obtaining a
waiver from MVE. Additionally, orders may be placed directly to MVE,
without utilizing the bid process.
