Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


April 29-May 5, 2019

South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 3:13 p.m. on April 30, 2019, an offender assaulted several officers. The offender attacked an officer, knocked him to the ground, and repeatedly struck him in the face with closed fists. Several officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officer was hospitalized for serious injuries to his face. During the restraint, an officer injured a knee and received outside medical attention. One officer injured both knees, and another was exposed to pepper spray; neither required outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault, which also will be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional CenterAt approximately 9:45 a.m. on May 2, 2019, an offender threw feces from a milk carton through a food port, striking an officer in the chest and facial area. Officers responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Southeast Correctional Center: At approximately 9:36 a.m. on May 3, 2019, an offender struck an officer in the left side of face and head with a closed fist. The officer received outside medical attention. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. During the restraint, an officer injured their knee and received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Chillicothe Correctional Center: At approximately 10:39 a.m. on May 4, 2019, an offender charged an officer, pushing the officer to the wall, and struck another officer in the face, scratching the officer near the eye. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. Neither officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution..
