Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


Jan. 14-20, 2019

Moberly Correctional Center: At approximately 9:14 a.m. Jan. 12, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender spat in the officer’s face and became aggressive. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. Heath care staff examined the officer and did not find injuries. The officer declined outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

South Central Correctional Center:  At approximately 11:10 p.m. Jan. 13, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender threw bodily fluids and food at the officer’s face and chest. Staff responded appropriately, and the officer secured the area. The officer was examined by outside medical staff, and bodily fluid exposure procedures were followed. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 9:44 a.m. Jan. 16, 2019, an offender assaulted a cook and an officer. The offender struck the cook three times on the face and struck the officer in the face with fist. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. The cook and officer were examined by outside medical staff. The cook sustained injuries. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
