Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
April 6-12, 2020
South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 4:14 p.m. on April 6, 2020, an offender assaulted a mental health worker. The offender squirted an unknown substance at the worker, striking the worker on the left side of the head, face, arm, chest and abdomen. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The mental health worker did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Jefferson City Correctional Center: At approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 6, 2020, an offender kicked an officer multiple times in the facial area. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Moberly Correctional Center: At approximately 8:04 p.m. on April 6, 2020, several offenders assaulted two officers. Two offenders struck an officer with closed fists in the facial area and rib cage. Another offender struck an officer twice in the back with a homemade weapon. Additional officers responded, the offenders was secured. The officers did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Eastern Reception Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 9:05 a.m. on April 8, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender spat at the officer, striking the officer on the left side torso. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Southeast Correctional Center: At approximately 6:00 p.m. on April 10, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struck the officer multiple times with a closed fist in the facial area. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. An officer injured their right knee when trying to restraining the offender. Both officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 7:49 pm. on April 11, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender grabbed the officer’s right arm through the food port and would not release the officer’s arm. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
