Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


March 9-15, 2020

Potosi Correctional Center: At approximately 5 p.m. on March 9, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender threw an unknown substance at the officer, striking the officer in the mouth, facial area, torso and legs. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 5:50 a.m. on March 14, 2020, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender threw an unknown substance at the first officer, striking the officer in the arms, chest, and face. The second officer was struck with the unknown substance in the neck, face, and arm. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 10:27 a.m. on March 15, 2020, an offender assaulted three officers. The offender grabbed an officer’s neck and groin, shoved an officer to the floor, and struck an officer with their elbow in the nose. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officers did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
