Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
May 4-10, 2020
Western Missouri Correctional Center: At approximately 3:15 p.m. on May 4, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender bit the officer on the left index and middle fingers. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Southeast Correctional Center: At approximately 5:18 p.m. on May 4, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender threw an unknown substance at the officer, striking the officer in the facial area, mouth, nose, and upper torso. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Northeast Correctional Center: At approximately 9:40 a.m. on May 5, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The officer was stuck in the right hand by a tattoo needle the offender had hidden and wrapped in toilet paper. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Potosi Correctional Center: At approximately 10:28 a.m. on May 2, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender stabbed the officer in the right leg with a prison made weapon. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution. (Outside medical attention was for a tetanus shot.)
Disturbance
Moberly Correctional Center: At approximately 3:15 p.m. on May 8, 2020. Six offenders took part in a disturbance. Staff responded appropriately, and the situation was resolved. Normal operations are continuing. No staff injuries were reported. No offender injuries have been reported. Conduct violations will be issued.
