Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


Nov. 11-17, 2019

Northeast Correctional Center: At approximately 9:30 a.m. Nov. 12, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The officer was searching the mail and noticed an unknown substance, an offender struck the officer in the hand to distract the officer, and the offender grabbed the mail and ran. Additional officers responded and the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Moberly Correctional Center: At approximately 3:49 p.m. Nov. 12, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struggled with the officer and attempted to place his hands on the officer’s neck and pull the officer inside his cell. Additional officers responded and the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 3:37 p.m. Nov. 13, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struck the officer twice in the facial area. Additional officers responded and the offender was secured. The officer received medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 4:18 a.m. Nov. 14, 2019, an offender assaulted three officers. The officers were attempting to place leg restraints on the offender and offender started kicking the officers. The offender struck one officer in the shoulder, thigh and abdomen. Another officer was kicked in the knee and the third officer was able to block the offenders kick. Additional officers responded and the offender was secured. The first officer required outside medical attention and the other officers did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Eastern Reception Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 5:59 p.m. Nov. 15, 2019, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender struck both officers in the facial area and resulted in blood exposure. Additional officers responded, the offender was secured. One officer injured their fingers while applying wrist restraints. The officers received medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
