Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
June 10-16, 2019
Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 8 a.m. June 10, 2019, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender struck one officer multiple times in the facial area and torso with a closed fist. The second officer was struck in the face with a closed fist. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. Both officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
South East Correctional Center: At approximately 7:53 a.m. on June 13, 2019, an offender assaulted several officers. The offender struck one officer in the chest and then struck a second officer in the face with aluminum soda can pieces and closed fists. A third officer attempted to apply pepper spray, and the offender struck that officer in the face with closed fists, still using soda can pieces as weapons. A fourth officer responded and applied pepper spray, and the offender struck the officer and knocked him to the ground. Another officer applied pepper spray to the offender, and additional officers responded and restrained the offender. Several officers were affected by pepper spray. However, none of the officers required outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued. This assault will be referred for prosecution.
Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 10:12 a.m. on June 15, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender struck an officer in the right eye with his elbow when the officer was attempting to break up an offender fight. An additional officer responded and administered pepper spray, allowing the officers to gain control and restrain the offenders. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Potosi Correctional Center: At approximately 4:30 p.m. June 16, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender attacked the officer from behind with a prison-made weapon, striking the officer in the face and head several times. Additional officers responded and the offender was restrained. The officer and two of the responding officers received outside medical treatment. A conduct violation was issued. This assault will be referred for prosecution.
