Assaults & Incidents

Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.


March 18-24, 2019

Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 12:04 pm. March 18, 2019, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender bit one officer on the hand and spat in both officers' faces. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. The officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Northeast Correctional Center: At approximately 2 p.m. March 19, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender attempted to pull the officer into the cell door, resulting in the officer receiving scrapes on his right hand and fingers. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured.  The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Chillicothe Correctional Center: At approximately 5:50 p.m. on March 21, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender threw hot food at the officer, striking on the left side of his head, left ear, left arm, left side of his back and left side of his neck. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.

Northeast Correctional Center: At approximately 2:02 p.m. March 22, 2019, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender grabbed one officer’s hand in an attempt to take the officer's pepper spray, and the pepper spray was deployed. Another officer responded and was able to secure the can of pepper spray. During the struggle, both officers were sprayed in the face. The offender then grabbed the second officer’s radio, and both officers struggled to retrieve it. The officers did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution. 

Women’s Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 12:55 p.m. March 23, 2019, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender kicked the officer in the groin area and twice in the thigh area. Staff responded appropriately, and the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation will be issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
