Weekly advisories summarize serious assaults on corrections officers and other staff members in the line of duty as well as major disturbances and other significant incidents occurring in Missouri Department of Corrections facilities.
March 2-8, 2020
Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 3:40 a.m. on March 3, 2020, an offender assaulted an officer. The offender threw a bar of soap at the officer, striking the officer in the left leg. The offender than spat an unknown substance at the officer, striking the officer on the left facial area, left eye and left side of the body. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officer received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Tipton Correctional Center: At approximately 11:51 p.m. on March 7, 2020. Six offenders took part in a fight. Staff responded appropriately, and the situation was resolved. Normal operations are continuing. No staff injuries have been reported. No offender injuries have been reported. Conduct violations will be issued.
South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 8:40 p.m. on March 8, 2020, while trying to restrain an offender, an offender assaulted an officer. The offenders elbowed the officer in the right rib cage area. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officer did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
South Central Correctional Center: At approximately 9:15 p.m. on March 8, 2020, while trying to escort an offender, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender spat at the officer, striking the officer in the face and left arm. While trying to assist the other officers left wrist was twisted. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officers did not require outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
Eastern Reception, Diagnostic & Correctional Center: At approximately 8:38 p.m. on March 8, 2020, an offender assaulted two officers. The offender struck one officer in the face with closed fists and also injured the officer’s hand. The other officer’s right wrist was injured. Additional officers responded, and the offender was secured. The officers received outside medical attention. A conduct violation was issued for this assault. Any assault may be referred for prosecution.
