Pay Plan Passed by Missouri General Assembly!

Message to Staff: May 10, 2019

Dear Corrections Family:

THE PAY PLAN HAS PASSED!!!!!

A pay increase for all Missouri Department of Corrections employees is expected to go into effect in January 2020. Developed by MODOC, supported by Governor Parson and approved by the Missouri General Assembly last night, this plan calls for a 3% salary increase for all state workers, plus an additional and ongoing 1% increase for every two years of service, up to 20 years, for all non-executive corrections staff.

We are SO excited!!! I’m particularly grateful to Governor Parson, who has supported our department and the pay plan from the start of this process. It would not be possible without him and his hardworking team. I am very proud to serve as a member of his Cabinet.

In the last update I sent, I mentioned that we were working to secure additional funding to ensure that calculation of the 1% increase for every two years of service would apply to all years of MODOC experience — not just the most recent term of continuous employment. I am thrilled to announce that the final pay plan includes this funding! This means that the 1,461 current members of the corrections team who left the department and then returned will be rewarded for all of their MODOC years of experience. We value the knowledge and wisdom of these staff members, and we’re delighted that we can compensate them for their contributions.

We are very thankful to Governor Parson, Senate and House leadership for their flexibility and willingness to work with us, and appreciate all of the members of the General Assembly and thank them for their support of Corrections employees.

Next Step

The final step is for Governor Parson to sign the budget bill, which includes our pay plan. He assures me that it will be signed.

I have been traveling around the state, conducting town hall meetings and talking with staff, and I want you to know that I am SO PROUD to be a part of this department. You are my number one priority. Working together is what makes this department successful, and we are continually moving in the right direction together. All I ask of you is to please do your part in making your work site safer and making your work environment more positive. Let’s be the best we can be. Please be safe. Thank you.
