Adult Institutions
For Missourians sentenced to state prisons, the Department of Corrections manages 21 correctional centers – 19 for men and two for women. Each institution is assigned a security custody level number — 1, 2 or 5. Custody level 1 is minimum security, custody level 2 is medium security, and custody level 5 is maximum security. Each institution is staffed with skilled professionals who help ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of offenders.
Probation & Parole
For Missourians on probation, parole or conditional release, the Department of Corrections operates more than 40 district offices, along with institutional parole offices, residential facilities and satellite offices in seven regions. All are staffed with trained probation and parole officers who supervise justice-involved Missourians on probation or parole. We also operates a 24-hour command center to track those on electronic monitoring.
Visiting
The department encourages family and friends to visit during a loved one’s incarceration. Regularly scheduled visiting is available at all facilities, with the exception of the diagnostic and treatment centers, which limit visits to specific days and times. Generally visits take place from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30-6:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Times might vary, and security problems might interfere with visiting. Each offender who is not in the diagnostic process or in a treatment program is allowed an approved visiting list with a maximum of 20 visitors.
