Staff attending training conducted by the department training academy must adhere to certain dress standards.
- Staff should be dressed in neat, clean, casual business attire. (Preferred attire: dress slacks, dress shirt/blouse, dress, skirt, suits, etc.)
- Department-issued uniforms or department/institution logo shirts are acceptable wear.
- The day prior to the beginning of institutional basic training, custody staff will be required to dress in full corrections officer uniform.
- The following are examples of articles that should not be worn to class (list is not comprehensive; dress deemed inappropriate is at the trainer's discretion):
- athletic clothing, sweatshirts, sweatpants, nylon jogging suits;
- shorts, skorts, short skirts/dresses; (the length of dresses/skirts must promote a professional image, with length no shorter than 3 inches above the knee);
- halter tops, midriff tops, spaghetti strap tops, tube tops, tank tops (the midriff and stomach areas must be covered);
- garments with lettering or pictures other than small symbols or trademark names that would be appropriate in a business setting (i.e., Nike, Polo) or logos authorized by the department;
- T-shirts traditionally worn as underclothing (these may not be worn as an outer garments);
- hats, caps or bandanas;
- flip-flop shoes (a light casual sandal typically made of plastic or rubber, open at the toes and back, held on the foot by a V-shaped strap that passes between the toes and around either side of the foot, attached to the sole at three points) or shower shoes;
- overalls/coveralls;
- camouflage clothing;
- leggings; and
- provocative or sheer clothing.
- Special considerations may be made for classes which require staff to perform physically strenuous activities.
- Attendees will be notified in advance of this type of training.
- Staff in violation of the dress standards will not be allowed to attend class while in noncompliance.
- Notification will be made to the chief administrative officer for appropriate disciplinary action.
